The Moscow Singing Village

The summer multi-genre open music festival of choirs, wind band & folklore
14.07.2012 - 21.07.2012

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 15, 2012

Long ago there was in Moscow a "Pevchaya Sloboda" - free settlement or village of the Patriarchal church singers. The foreign Patriarchs came to Moscow from overseas with a group of choristers who participated in the patriarchal divine services. It is believed that when the service was over, Russian choristers and their overseas colleagues went together to the Singing village to sing songs and communicate with each other. Moreover, foreign ambassadors often came to Moscow musicians who displayed their talent not only in the Kremlin, but also in the tsar's summer residence near Moscow. Therefore, many centuries before "an epoch of festivals", Moscow was already one of the world music festival centers. This idea served as a basis for the new Moscow festival named "Московская Певчая Слобода" -"The Moscow Singing Village". The festival is meant for open air performances of Russian and foreign musicians and is a great place where creative people interested in music gather together to discuss the art issues.
